CSSL ICT Researcher of the Year Awards

  • Professor A. Ramanan was awarded the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) Researcher of the Year Award for 2022 by His Excellency Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President of Sri Lanka, in the National ICT Awards ceremony held on October 11, 2023, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.
  • Professor M. Siyamalan was awarded the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) Researcher of the Year Award for 2021 by His Excellency Mr. Michael Appleton, the New Zealand High Commissioner of Sri Lanka and Maldives, in the 40th National IT Conference held on October 12, 2022, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.

Ramanan received the Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees (SUSRED) Awards 2022/2023 for supervising the Ph.D. Thesis titled ‘A semi-supervised deep learning approach based on attentive visual features for fashion clothing classification’, awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.
  • Prof. M. Siyamalan received the Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees (SUSRED) Awards 2022/2023 for supervising the Ph.D. Thesis titled ‘Deep learning based fine-grained diabetic retinopathy image grading’, awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.

  • Dr. A. Ramanan received the Outstanding Branch Counsellor Award for being the “Branch Counsellor of the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Jaffna” awarded at the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Awards – 2021 ceremony held on 27 January 2022.
  • The final year research project, “A self-training convolutional neural network for the classification of surface defects in computer integrated manufacturing”, conducted by Ms. Mayuravaani Mathuranathanan, a Level-4S student of the Department of Computer Science under the supervision of Dr. M. Siyamalan has been awarded as a “Best innovative project – University category” at the Provincial Level of the “Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) National Ingenuity Awards 2021”.
