DCS IEEE Volunteers Secure Five Prestigious Awards and Two Recognitions at the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Awards 2025

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section Awards 2025 were conducted in two distinguished phases to recognise excellence and impactful contributions across the IEEE community in Sri Lanka.

Phase 1 of the awards ceremony was held on 27 September 2025 at the Jie Jie Beach Hotel, Panadura, recognising outstanding achievements of IEEE Student Branches, Chapters, and Affinity Groups. Awards were presented across several categories, including Best Student Branch Project, highlighting innovation, leadership, and dedication among student volunteers.

Phase 2 was held on 12 January 2026 at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, honouring excellence across Organizational Units, Special Activities, Individual Volunteers, and External Contributions, thereby celebrating the achievements of IEEE chapters and members nationwide.

Members of the Department of Computer Science (DCS), University of Jaffna, who actively serve as IEEE volunteers, made the department proud by securing five prestigious awards across both phases of the ceremony.

Awards Secured – Phase 1:

  1. Outstanding Affinity Group Award (Student Affinity Group Category)
    Awarded to the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Student Branch Affinity Group, University of Jaffna, in recognition of its exemplary activities carried out during 2025, under the advisorship of Dr. (Ms.) J. Samantha Tharani.
  2. Emerging Chapter Award (Student Branch Category)
    Awarded to the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Student Branch Chapter, University of Jaffna, for its impactful initiatives during 2025, under the advisorship of Prof. A. Ramanan.

Awards Secured – Phase 2:

  1. IEEE Sri Lanka Section Outstanding Student Branch Chapter Counsellor Award
    Conferred upon Dr. E. Y. A. Charles for his excellent and outstanding contributions to the IEEE Student Branch, University of Jaffna.
  2. IEEE Sri Lanka Section Outstanding Student Branch Chapter Advisor Award
    Awarded to Prof. A. Ramanan for his significant contributions to the IEEE CIS Student Branch Chapter, University of Jaffna.
  3. IEEE Sri Lanka Section Outstanding Student Branch WIE Affinity Group Advisor Award
    Awarded to Dr. (Ms.) J. Samantha Tharani for her excellent and outstanding contributions to the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group, University of Jaffna.

Recognitions Secured – Phase 2:

Letters of Recognition were awarded by the IEEE Sri Lanka Section to the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of the University of Jaffna for bringing distinction and global recognition to Sri Lanka through its exemplary activities carried out during 2024, under the advisorship of Dr. (Ms.) R. Nirthika. These recognitions were granted in acknowledgment of the following prestigious regional and international achievements:

  1. 2025 IEEE Region 10 WIE Student Activities Committee Outstanding Student Branch Affinity Group Award
  2. Platinum 2025 Darrel Chong Student Activity Award

The Department of Computer Science proudly celebrates this remarkable series of achievements and extends its heartfelt congratulations to all student volunteers, along with the Counsellor, Senior Treasurer, and Advisors of the IEEE community at the University of Jaffna, for their continued dedication and excellence.
