Mr. Nimantha Rathnayake, a graduand of the Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna, has brought pride to the university by winning the Gold Award under the Tertiary Student Project (Technology) category at the prestigious National ICT NBQSA Awards 2025.
His award-winning research, titled “A Deep Learning-Based Automated Tool for Ki-67 Quantification in Breast Cancer Histopathology,” demonstrates an outstanding blend of technology and medical science, offering innovation in cancer diagnostics.
The project was academically supervised by Prof. A. Ramanan, co-supervised by Dr. T. Kokul of the University of Jaffna, and medically supervised by Dr. Prathibha Nellihela with co-supervision by Dr. (Mrs.) Jayanjana Asanthi of the Teaching Hospital, Anuradhapura.
The prestigious award was presented at the Grand Awards Ceremony organised by the BCS Sri Lanka Section, endorsed by the Ministry of Digital Economy, held on 10 October 2025 at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo.
