The first CS-Career Fair was successfully conducted on Saturday, 5 August 2017 from 9.00am to 4.30pm at the Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna. The CS-Career Fair’17 was a very remarkable event to the Department of Computer Science at the University of Jaffna because it was the first time since the inception of the Department in 1991 that it has introduced Industrial Training in its curriculum. Based on the employers’ feedback the Department has revised its curriculum with a vision to uplift the skills and the level of knowledge of computer science students to a certain acceptable level in order to fill the identified gaps. The newly introduced Industrial Training is expected to promote career awareness, stimulate skill development and personality development among the students.
The following IT companies (listed in alphabetical order): Arima Technologies, Ceymplon, hSenid Mobile, IFS, Innovay, Inegrate2Cloud Apps, Irstha, Techorin Solutions, TIQRI, and WSO2 have participated in the career fair. Due to other commitments, Virtusa has participated for the same on Saturday, 12th of August 2017.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Professor R. Vigneswaran the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna and Prof. J.P. Jeyadevan the Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna. Dr. A. Ramanan the Acting Head of the Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna delivered the welcome address by welcoming Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty, Heads of the Departments, Staff of the Department of Computer Science, invited IT professionals, and CS students. Following the welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of the Faculty delivered their address to the gathering. Thereafter, Dr. K. Thabotharan, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science introduced the participating IT companies in the CS-Career Fair’17 and each representative of the companies delivered a spotlight session. The inauguration ceremony came to an end around 10.30am and all the participants moved to the stalls that were setup in CUL.
From 10.30am to 1.00pm, Level 3S & 3M students were given opportunity to visit the stalls to seek placements for Industrial Training. From 1.30pm to 4.30pm, Level 4S & 4M students were given opportunity to visit the stalls to seek for job opportunities. Overall, the participated companies are satisfied with the students’ performance. The event was organised with a great team effort of the staff of the Department of Computer Science to be a successful one.
